These folks made it through the storm better than many people in houses, but just the same, in many parts of the country, their camp would have been bulldozed. http://www.newsday.com/news/region-state/tent-city-homeless-residents-elect-representatives-1.4188858" target="_blank">[links]

Tent City Storm Report... [gplus] [facebook]

Tent City survived
    She stood the test
Sandy tried
    She did her best
She blew so hard
    The trees were bent
You couldn't escape her
    Wherever you went
The wind was strong
    The storm was mean
Perhaps the worst
    We've ever seen
The trees whistled
    The stake lines creaked
But the Old Tent held
    She didn't leak
We were all scared

Unfortunately, neither FEMA nor the officials of New Jersey or Ocean County officially respect homeless persons as qualifying for assistance with the expense of replacing/repairing their shelters, possessions, etc.  We are not aware of any hurricane relief efforts by the officials of Lakewood, NJ other than directing traffic, lending a few generators, and maintaining curfews (note that military tanks were stationed in the parking lot of the closed library).
