The Tent City Movement rises in response to the growing crisis in homelessness and extreme poverty in the United States, as well the growing brutality of anti-homeless laws. The current solutions are inadequate. We advocate and support the establishment of well-organized voluntarily-funded homeless camps, where individuals with no better place to go would be safe from police harassment and be within easy reach of volunteers.
The Tent City Movement is comprised of many independent "modules": local county chapters that do hands-on work, as well as intellectual supporters coming from many different perspectives: political movements and parties, religious organizations, interest groups, etc.
Different people have different reasons and motivations for supporting our ideas - we do not always agree... In online discussions, we welcome constructive input from all perspectives. In hands-on work in local chapters, we ask that our supporters please find common ground and work on overlapping interests, "agreeing to disagree" on their differences.
